The tunnel was daylighted after collapsing in the Tehachapi Mountains earthquake that occurred Monday, July 21, 1952. The mainline was moved over several feet and the hillside above the tunnel was used in the big fill.

- October 26, 2008 was a day that saw Amtrak trains roll over Tehachapi. But many freights ran that day too! Here GEVO BNSF 7625 leads a northbound over Tehachapi Creek (which flows from Tehachapi to Caliente where it joins Caliente Creek) between Walong and Woodford.

- BNSF GE ES44DC 7780 is looking pretty ghetto in Empire, California on March 31, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. The 7780 is leading fellow GEVOs 7760, 7758 with DPUs 7702 and 7713 on the rear. The train is stopped while a a crewman goes over to a nearby roach coach to get some food. The 7780 was built in June 2005.
