Austin & Texas Central (ATCX)

Austin & Texas Central (ATCX) sems to be the operational name and reporting mark of the Austin Steam Train Association (ASTA). The mission of the ASTA is to preserve, interpret and re-create the first-hand experience of historic steam-era railroading for the enjoyment and edification of today’s families and the generations to come. The ASTA operates excursion trains between Cedar Park and Burnet on the Austin Western Railroad (AWRR).

ATCX 442 is an ALCo RSD-15/DL600B. Reportedly: it was built in 1960 as ATSF 842, serial number 83578. It became ATSF 9842, then Squaw Creek Coal 9842, then Indiana Hi-Rail 442, then Wabash & Ohio 442, then Maumee & Western 442, and then ATCX 442.

Former BRC 605, ALCo C424

Former BRC 605 is an ALCo C424. Reportedly: it was built in 1966 as BRC 605, serial number 3450-03. Reporting marks and numbers said to be associated with this locomotive include AM 605 and HBRY 605. On April 16, 2024, Collin Riviello said, "The last C-424 ever built. Currently for sale."

HZRX 3134 is an EMD GP40. Reportedly: it was built in 1968 as PC 3118, serial number 34295. Reporting marks and numbers said to be associated with this locomotive include DRGW 3134, CR 3118 and SW 3134.

Former VLIX 158 is an ALCo S2. Reportedly: it was built in 1949 as Monogahela Connecting 158, serial number 76586. Reporting marks and numbers said to be associated with this locomotive include Fort Howard Paper, Muskogee, 158.

Rolling Stock

Ex-DRGW 1121, (Silver Pine), Budd 48 seat coach

Silver Pine (former DRGW 1121) is a Budd 48 seat coach. Reportedly: it was built in 1948 as a California Zephyr 16 Section Sleeper. In 1963-64 the cars of this class were rebuilt into coaches. The Silver Pine remained in service on the Rio Grande Zephyr until it too was discontinued in 1984. The Silver Pine was sold to a private owner and kept in storage until ASTA purchased the car in 2010. It was returned to service in 2011 as a first class coach car.
